I am sorry to say that Medi-Share does not reimburse for Direct Primary Care fees as I thought it did. I was misinformed and I am sorry that I mislead anyone by saying that they did. As I understand it, Liberty Health Share is the only Health Share that does. But they only reimburse for a percentage of my membership fees. If you need to discuss this further, feel free to call or email me.
I am happy to announce that I can test for allergies and treat them with sublingual immunotherapy, or oral drops! Allergy Choices, Inc is a company that provides affordable prices for direct payment. Some features:
- Best for uninsured or high deductible insurance plans that don't cover the treatment.
- We can test your blood or use prior results.
- Food and environmental allergens.
- Oral drops daily instead of periodic shots.
- Costs less than paying cash at a specialist's office.
- HSA funds can be used for payment.
- 2-5 year commitment for treatment for best results.
There is currently only one allergy specialist who offers this treatment, but it is not covered by insurance even thru them.
If you have been unable to afford treatment for your allergies, don't suffer any longer! Call for more information. 540-251-1394.
This is the document that I give to my patients. It is not exhaustive but is meant to be a general guide. See also my documents on Boosting Immunity Naturally and Alternative Treatments for Allergies in my Links tab.
Come see the new office and learn about Direct Primary Care!
I will be giving a short presentation, followed by Q&A. Families welcome! (psst! We have a play room.) I will have food and drink!
September 9th. 10am-Noon
I have officially moved my office to 103 College Street!
Still in Christiansburg, VA.
I am so thankful for my time at The Weigh Station and greatly appreciate everyone who has helped me with the process. I am excited for this new space to feel like home!
Due to increased demands on my schedule, I am limiting myself to one newborn & postpartum mama at a time. I hate to turn folks away but it's also not fair to anyone for me to be spread too thin. With this boundary I can provide the best service that I can to these precious mamas and babies.
These 2-month blocks are available:
Mid September to Mid November
Mid January 2018 and beyond
If I can assist you with postpartum care during these dates, contact me and we will set up a free consultation.
It's the season, y'all. And with the mild winter/long autumn that we had here in the NRV, it's going to be worse than usual. Some of you are blessed with a skin microbiome that naturally repels these critters (ahem! my husband) but the rest of us suffer from what feels like death by a thousand bites. And then there's Lyme Disease and the Zika virus. So I will review the options for preventing flea, tick, and mosquito bites.
That mild winter
could come back to bite you
The CDC has many articles listed with info on the effectiveness of non-DEET repellants, for those who like the nitty gritty. For those who don't:
Many of these compounds have not been evaluated by the EPA for effectiveness but have been designated as safe by the EPA. But there is other research on their effectiveness.
A chemical from tomato plants. Use on skin/clothing/gear. As effective or better than DEET and permethrin in repelling deer ticks, also repels mosquitos. Has EPA registration for mosquitos. http://www.homs.com/bioud®.html
Garlic juice based sprays for lawn will decrease the nymphs of deer ticks (by killing them I assume) by around 50% for 11-18 days. Minimal health risk to humans and animals.
Rosemary Essential Oil
Spray for lawns will reduce deer tick nymphs, larvae, and adults. See the study for specifics of when to apply. 3 other Arthropods will also transiently decline. Bees unaffected.
Nootka (Alaskan Cedar) Essential Oil
For skin/clothing/gear. Repels 2 types of deer ticks, for up to 7 days on clothing. Better than Permethrin, EcoSMART, and Thyme essential oil. Also more consistent results on lawns than EcoTrol and Thyme essential oil. This is one of the ingredients in doTERRA's TerraShield blend.
Metarhizium anisopliae strain F52
A fungus strain for lawn application that kills deer tick nymphs. See the 3rd & 4th articles.
From the EPA product tool:
For use on skin. Repels mosquitos for 7 hours (both 7% and 15% products). Present in doTERRA's TerraShield blend.
For use on skin. Repels mosquitos for 1-3 hours, depending on concentration and product type.
Lemon Eucalyptus Oil
For use on skin. Repels mosquitos for 6 hours, some products also repel ticks for 6 hours. Present in doTERRA's TerraShield Blend.
Preventing infestations on your pets is the best way to prevent them from invading your home or from biting you. There are multiple conventional flea prevention products such as Frontline, Revolution, etc. If you are inclined to a natural approach, cedar and eucalyptus essential oils can be diluted and sprayed onto your dog or cat (avoiding eyes/nose/mouth) or used to soak into a collar. See this file.
Ever wondered what PPO and HMO mean? This article breaks down the details and how to navigate these choices based on your health and needs.
OPEN ENROLLMENT is coming, folks! While you may not see much increase in your premium in Virginia for your "Obamacare" plan, you can save 34-39% with Medi-share** combined with my direct primary care membership. And that's just a rough estimate!
*my calculations in the Cost Comparison Table do not take into account any of these subsidies because they would be unique to your situation.
**Medi-Share is a Christian Healthcare Sharing Ministry. It is a part of an exception under the Affordable Care Act. It is NOT insurance.
